FRIENDS OF SEVENOAKS
Thank you to our outgoing FoS team members for another fabulous year .
It has been a busy year for the Friends of Sevenoaks team with a broad number of fabulous events , some arranged by FoS and some co-sponsored with the school . It was fantastic to see the success of the new Year 7 and 8 picnic in August , which did so much to help settle our new starters ( and their parents ) into school life . The restructured sectional coffee mornings were also a great success , with parents across the Lower School , Middle School and Sixth Form able to chat to each other and staff about the journeys their children are taking .
As ever , the Quiz Night was popular and highly competitive ! Large numbers appreciated the joint FoS and Sevenoaks Literary Festival talk by Clive Myrie , as well as the ‘ By parents , for parents , talks ’ delivered by Dr Jenn Mahon . Both of her talks were key to the parenting experience : the first on ‘ Transitions : staying close while letting go ’, and the second on ‘ Screen time : how to work with your child to get the good out of screen use without getting into the bad ’.
There has been a staggering range of off-site initiatives this year . Gastronomic choices such as the Lunar New Year cookie-making workshop , Holi lunch , Taiwanese tea-tasting and Nowruz lunch were all popular , as were cultural visits to the Tate Modern ’ s Capturing the Moment exhibition and the Sargent and Fashion exhibition at Tate Britain . Meanwhile , keen gardeners had the opportunity to see the Himalayan Gardens at Riverhill or enjoy an exclusive tour of Great Comp Garden .
Our own beautiful gardens were a feature for the event which rounded off the year : a wonderful summer soirée on Claridge lawn , which saw parents from across a range of different year groups mingling to chat , with the sun making a late appearance !
It has been a pleasure to work with the FoS team , and I would like to thank Sarvi Guivi ( Chair ) and Sejuti Roy ( Treasurer ) formally for the unceasing work they have put in over the past two years . The FoS team have worked with the school to ensure that parents feel they are a cherished part of this very special community .
