YEAR 7 STUDY TRIP TO FRANCE

L ’ histoire de Lille et la culture française

In June , all those who took French went to Lille , in the north of France , for four days . This trip enabled us to expand our knowledge of French culture and language and put us in situations where we learned new phrases or tried to explain using what we knew . We also learned lots about the history of Lille , dating back to prehistoric times , in an immersive outdoor museum showing exact replicas of houses and discoveries in Lille . We were also intrigued by discoveries of metals and elements and what they were used for . As well as visiting this museum , we did many activities that involved going around Lille and learning about the culture surrounding it .
On the third day that we were there , we were sent into downtown Lille , to go on a treasure hunt of sorts . We were given a booklet with questions about the area , instructing us to go to certain streets and look for hidden objects , such as cannonballs on the street . In some of the other questions , we had to go into French shops and museums asking about them in French . This launched us into a situation where we could use what we had learned in our lessons . As we walked around the town centre , answering questions , we could really see all the hidden snippets of culture in Lille .
To finish off the trip with lots of fun , we went to a zoo in Belgium , and we did a tour about why animals ’ senses are important in their environment . As well as learning about different animals , we got to see many rare animals that you don ’ t see in most zoos , such as Tasmanian Devils , pandas and many more . We also went to an aquarium and saw many fish , as well as a turtle .
It was an enjoyable trip , and I learned about France , while also having lots of fun with my friends . Thank you to Madame Troletti for planning the trip and to the group leaders : Mrs Whitman , Miss Clauzel , Mrs Watts , Mr Willis and Mr Norman .
