SAILING

This year has been a highly active and successful one for sailing and the level of achievement from all has been stunning . The teams have taken part in a wide variety of fixtures and competitions ( in many types of boat ) in both team racing and fleet racing events .
The biggest of these achievements has been the success of our Feva teams at nationals , resulting in them being allowed to compete at the Feva Worlds in Italy in July ! Earlier in the year our senior team also won the Suffolk Shiver , the first school event of 2023 . They won every race they raced in , earning first place above the hosts , Royal Hospital School .
There has also been excitement over the new equipment that has arrived this year , particularly the range of boats that have been set up at the school ’ s new second venue , Bewl Water . I remember my first time sailing an Aero this year , a very lightweight and smooth sailing boat , and feeling amazed at the new and distinctive styles of boat that the department has access to . All these pieces of equipment allow sailors to gain new sailing skillsets , as well as experiencing the infectious joy that comes with learning these new skills . I want to thank the coaches for giving us the opportunity to do this .
A moment that stuck in my mind this year was the sailing dinner . Every year we hold an evening devoted to sailing in the Dining Hall , but this year was different due to the effort put in by everyone . On display were the entries of a baking competition inspired by sailing , meaning that the desserts were especially beautiful and unique , as well as delicious !
