people together than school rugby . The physical and mental approach that the game requires is unrivalled and it ’ s enabled us to build friendships that will last a lifetime .’
There are many other highlights from the wider rugby programme to look back upon , but the biggest success certainly must be the reintroduction of girls rugby to Sevenoaks , and we are delighted that rugby sevens will become a sport offering to all senior students in the Lent term . This is especially exciting having seen record numbers attending mixed touch rugby throughout the summer .
Finally , as a school our main intention is to provide students with a Sevenoaks experience that will instil a lifelong passion for sport . A recent study of school , college and university rugby by the RFU asked the question ‘ What is important to you when playing the game ?’ They found that younger players place great importance on team spirit and enjoyment , while older players were more likely to cite pride in performance , competition and social aspects of the game . This has proved to be incredibly useful in shaping our rugby programme . It has also been pleasing to see several recent leavers welcomed into the rugby alumni programme , and we have every confidence that this number will continue to grow .
