Miss Roux accompanying on the piano . She then directed the Junior Chamber Choir with ‘ Sumer is icumen in ’, a medieval English rota from the 13th century . Their second piece was a dazzling rendition of the 1977 Abba hit ‘ Thank you for the Music ’, with Miss Eccleshall on the piano . After a short interlude , the Sennocke Consort , led by Mr Dyer , opened with a liturgical piece , ‘ O crux , ave spes unica ’ by Cristobál de Morales , from the 16th century . With the invaluable support of Miss Roux on the piano , the Consort continued with a dazzling arrangement of six pieces from Porgy and Bess by George Gershwin .
impressive Aladdin medley , including the much-loved ‘ A Whole New World ’ and the ethereal ‘ Arabian Nights ’, which were so good that Mr Harvey treated the audience to an encore !
The concert was a huge success thanks to the efforts of all the teachers , musicians , singers , audience and , of course , the incredible light and sound technicians who made it all happen . Safe to say , that ( Arabian ) night ended on a very , very high note .

This phenomenal evening kicked off with the Senior Girls Chamber Choir , directed by Ms Day , setting the scene with a performance of ‘ Bring me little water , Silvy ’ by Huddie Ledbetter , an American blues singer of the 1930s . Thereafter followed a fantastic arrangement of ‘ Shenandoah ’ and ‘ The Water is Wide ’, two folk songs from the US and Britain , with
Following the interval , for the second half of the concert and final act of the evening , the Choral Society took the stage for a performance of the Nelson Mass by Joseph Haydn , written in 1798 . They were valiantly supported by the Parents and Friends Choir and accompanied by a professional orchestra including some of our music teachers and students . With six movements and merely a term of practice , it seemed like a daunting task at first , but was a huge success , mostly due to the grand effort of Mr Harvey , the conductor and choirmaster . However , the undisputed stars of the evening were the four soloists , Miss Broad , Miss Reynolds , Mr Furtado-Mendes and Mr Chéné-Gration . While all soloists gave scintillating and astonishing performances , Miss Broad , the soprano , was the standout performer of the evening and garnered most of the audience ’ s applause . We are incredibly fortunate to have her as a teacher of voice at Sevenoaks School .
The concert proved to be a memorable , outstanding evening of choral music at Sevenoaks School . Thank you to everyone involved in making it such a special event . The tremendous applause was testimony to everyone ’ s extraordinary talent and performances !
