MUSIC AT SEVENOAKS CHORAL CONCERTS
DISNEY
On a dark November evening , a packed Pamoja Hall eagerly awaited the opening number of an unusual Music at Sevenoaks concert : a celebration of Disney .
The concert opened with the Chorus singing a beautiful medley from Beauty and the Beast . Here the audience enjoyed un peu de français and accompanied the singers with enthusiastic clapping . This was followed by an adorable Aristocats number by the Year 8 and 9 Chamber Choir who sang their whiskers off , while the audience lapped up their incredible harmonies . Up third was the Senior Girls ’ Ensemble , who praised ’ major hunk ’ Hercules with a boppy opening song , before singing a heartfelt and majestic ‘ Go the Distance ’.
After the intermission , the Sennocke Consort performed an astonishing 14-minute number , with an additional wow factor which came not from this great feat , nor Mr Dyer ’ s expert conducting , but from the dancers who offered a colourful display of moves and enthusiasm . From the amazing tap dancing which accompanied ‘ Step in Time ’ ( Mary Poppins ), to the brilliant flexing performed alongside ‘ Son of Man ’ ( Tarzan ), Mrs Rhatigan ’ s dancers proved that Sevenoaks is not only a school of incredible choral prowess , but of choreographic potential too .
The Year 7 choir was the penultimate act , melting the hearts of watching grandparents as they sang pieces from The Lion King . Thanks are especially due to the supportive Choral Society boys who were watching from the back and initiated a very wholesome armwaving moment which many parents eagerly joined . The boys then sang ‘ Heigh-Ho ’ ( Snow White ) with a creative use of the Pamoja Hall ’ s staircases , which certainly turned a lot of heads their way . Finally , the whole Choral Society took the stage with an
