SQUASH
The Surrey Sports Park Invitational Schools Squash Tournament was our first big tournament of the season with eight teams involved . Winchester , the favourite and eventual winner , were in our group . With the top two teams going through , it came down to us and Charterhouse for the second slot for the semifinal . We came up just short and ended fifth overall .
The Roehampton Schools Squash Tournament is one of the most prestigious school tournaments and after winning Division 2 a couple of years ago , we were moved up to Division 1 . We put in an impressive performance against Marlborough College ( who had come third at the Surrey tournament ), lost to tournament winners , Epsom , and just came short against our nemesis , Charterhouse . Overall , we were sixth .
During the season we have had enjoyable and successful matches against local schools , winning almost every fixture and allowing every player who chose squash and others who come to lunchtime sessions to play at least one fixture . We also had some Lower and Middle School fixtures with some skilful playing and dedication .
More students than ever are attending lunchtime and after-school training and there is a league developing , enabling players to gain an England Squash ranking . Zeb Young , a Kent county coach , started working with the team in September , and is bringing both enthusiasm and rigour to the training sessions . Plans are in place to build competitive sharpness by playing matches against the local squash clubs and continuing school box leagues .
