Initially , it was evident that we would have to overcome the challenges caused by the pandemic . A rebuilding process was soon under way with the aim to reignite passion and stay connected to the values we associate with playing the game .
If we were to base our season upon results only , then we would certainly be disappointed by the fact that our 1st and 2nd XV endured a tough season , as did the U16s . However , it ’ s important to remember that while winning is gaining victory in a competition , success is an accomplishment of an aim over time .
With this in mind , we celebrated success on many different levels , including wins in the Kent Sevens , and six players being involved with Kent Saracens and Harlequins Player Pathway Programmes . Other highlights , some of which are pictured here , included :
An inter-year-group touch tournament : an opportunity for Year 9s to play alongside 1st XV players . A great success which we will revisit next year !
Approaching half term , we decided to put our 1st and 2nd XV through their paces , and this involved a three-mile run to the local boxing club . It ’ s safe to say they were pushed to their limits ! An immensely beneficial experience .
The U15s were victorious in the Kent Sevens , comfortably beating Ravens Wood School in the final . They ’ re a formidable year group with huge amounts of talent in their ranks . The U16s also won the Kent Sevens , with a fine performance against The Judd School .
The U14s just missed out upon qualifying for the second day at the Rosslyn Park Sevens . A highlight in which Mr Andy Brace ( World Rugby Professional Referee ) showed his support throughout the day .
We reintroduced girls rugby in the Summer term , ably assisted by Georgia Comerford ( Harlequins and England ). The uptake was remarkable , and plans are already underway to provide representative matches in the Lent term 2023 .
