Students versus staff match
GIRLS
The 1st XI had an amazing season , culminating in a national final on the Olympic pitch . Sadly , we didn ’ t come away with the result we wanted , but it was a really great experience . We have grown significantly as a team ; our teamwork and perseverance has been demonstrated multiple times across the season , in particular by our comebacks against Haileybury and Epsom , which were by no means easy games . It is fair to say that our true fighting spirit was especially apparent in our games against Knole Park .
We also had a lot of fun journeys , staying over before the national semi-final , travelling to the Olympic Park and the Varsity game , and all these experiences contributed to our close team bond . The Varsity game was a great way to end the season and to see so many different scorers , to welcome some of the upcoming , younger players and to support the Old Sennockians in such a competitive game . Overall , I am extremely proud of our team this season and the Upper Sixth players have led by example and have been amazing throughout .

On and off the pitch , this season was nothing short of triumphant . With no losses in full-length games and more than 23 goals scored in the process , it was also filled with lots of excitement and excellent hockey . The best game for me would have to be the fixture against St John ’ s Leatherhead , which we won resoundingly with lots of people making the scoresheet , which is always nice to see .
Another great aspect of this season was the inclusivity of the team ; we were joined by some of the girls and some games we played included students spanning from Year 10 all the way to the Upper Sixth . Despite the varying ability , we all really enjoyed ourselves . Unfortunately , due to a freak gym injury , our usual keeper was out of action in the latter half of the season , but Nick Beier quickly volunteered to step up . To everyone ’ s astonishment and delight , some unbelievable game-saving stops were made in the closing few matches , helping us to finish the season on a serious high with three solid victories .
Of course , a true highlight was the students versus staff match at the end of term which was high-paced and full of skill ! Somehow the staff managed to draw with us 5-5 and it was a fantastic game enjoyed by all .
