SEVENOAKS SING-OFF 2021
My new friends and I excitedly took our seats for the Sevenoaks singOFF . It was early October and for me , it was more than just the first musical event of the year . It was my first musical event at Sevenoaks School . I was excited to be a part of the audience and support some of the people in my year , and the years above and below . Being new to the school , I didn ’ t know what to expect from a musical event like the singOFF , but I was blown away by the atmosphere and the excitement of the crowd . I really got a sense of the boarding community ’ s support , as GIH stood united as one of their fellow housemates , Isabella Mandich , sang an immaculate rendition of ‘ Halo ’ by Beyonce .
One act that stood out was Eve Ward from Year 9 belting out ‘ No One Else ’ from Natasha , Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812 . Quite literally , my jaw was on the floor . I couldn ’ t believe what I was hearing ; it sounded so professional . And this level of talent was only met and exceeded as the night went on . The jazzy numbers from members of the Upper Sixth really livened up the atmosphere and when hit sensations from crowd favourites , like Justin Bieber , came along , the whole Pamoja Hall couldn ’ t help but clap and sing along . This is not to forget the hilarious judging from the members of staff , who offered valuable insight and comments on the singing .
All the singers , having made it to the final stage of the competition , performed brilliantly , and huge congratulations went to winner Zenaide Castellano Pucci , runner-up Eve Ward and highly commended Katie Stone on their stunning performances .
The event raised money for West Kent Mind through ticket sales and the interval bake sale . Thanks were given to student leaders Luca Jacobelli , Lauren Osborne-Patterson and Ollie Chugg ; the judges , singers and band , and Music teacher Mr Palmer .
Overall , it was a night to remember for a number of reasons : the talented singing , the brilliant judges , but most of all as a night that highlighted the liveliness and fun of the Sevenoaks community that I would grow to love and cherish over the next year .
