students went on to gain Blues and full England trials . The camaraderie of ‘ The Originals ’ brought about the formation of an Old Boys invitational side known as the Whitney Buccaneers .
Not surprisingly , Mike has always had a soft spot for ‘ The Originals of 1974 ’. With this in mind , captain Guy Hollamby and vice-captain Andy McMaster set about bringing everyone together – belatedly because of Covid – to celebrate Mike ’ s 80th birthday . Glasses were raised to Mike and to the enduring friendships forged by happy memories of school rugby . We were proud to be able to finally celebrate with him .

Six of us – Lance Johnson , Bruno Hanson , Richard Bird , Christopher Johnson , Malcolm Honey , Alan ‘ Bumble ’ Bumstead – met at Sevenoaks School in September 1960 when we were in the same form aged 13 . We left between 1963 and 1965 and continue to meet every summer for lunch . We tried to celebrate our 60th anniversary in 2020 , but the pandemic stopped that , so we are pictured here ( top right ) at our belated anniversary lunch in Sevenoaks this summer .

A COLLECTION OF SCHOOL TIES
Thank you very much for a wonderful 50 + Year Reunion Lunch . It was so nice to meet old pals from more than 50 years ago ! The photo here is kind of special because it shows three of us wearing the old ties which I still have hidden away in my wardrobe . For the fun of it , I made friends from the Class of 1968 wear them . On the left is Edward Palmer with the ‘ old ’ tie made of wool with pink stripes and a dark blue background , which we always found and still find horrible . Then there is me with the ‘ new ’ Park Grange tie made of a synthetic fabric . Next to me is Peter Hirsh without a tie , and furthest right is Simon Fradd with the ‘ new ’ Hardinge tie .
Because of the difficulty of correct pronunciation of my name , Gerrit Johannes ( or Johan ) ter Poorten , everybody simply called me ‘ TP ’ in the years I was at school , and it has stuck to the present day !
