frustrating , however , we all took advantage of being able to play more relaxed friendly games . To make things even better , we all took part in a series of hockey-related challenges , such as an end of every session crossbar challenge . Our season finally ended with the usual boys versus girls hockey match on the last day of lessons at school . Played between leavers only , it was a lovely event to mark the end of our school careers . There was a range of abilities on the pitch , yet it did not matter , and everyone had a good time – a lively crowd got involved whenever possible too . It was great to see everyone getting stuck in , especially those who had never played hockey before .

I captained a team in the catchily titled Year 10 Covid Cup . We had a really great time playing ; it was fun to just play with friends and mix the teams up . Even though we couldn ’ t play hockey matches against other schools , the friendly competition made us even more motivated , and our match play improved every week , which was good to see . Just walking down to Hollybush , wearing our different team kits , made it feel like a proper Saturday . We wore GPS pods to track our data and the teachers made it feel like a real tournament with umpiring and excitement . I felt for my friends at other schools who didn ’ t have any sport at all .

I loved the internal hockey tournaments run during the Michaelmas term . I enjoyed working with my team each week – as we figured out strengths and weaknesses , it helped us develop . Each game was exciting , and the bonus rounds were also very fun . The best parts for me were keeping the same teams each time , so that we could reflect on what we could improve next time . The tournaments were a great way to spend our games afternoons , the competitiveness matched that of a match against another school ! This helped us to learn what we were capable of .
