Cross C ountry It’s been another very successful season for cross country with our runners competing at county and national level and winning several awards. The junior girls won the Thomas Trophy at Sevenoaks Prep, the junior boys won the Kent Independent Schools Cross Country event at Somerhill and our senior team won our friendly home fixture, the Simon Houghton Trophy. The inter teams were very successful in the English Schools Athletic Association Cross Country Cup, with the boys finishing eighth out of 325 teams nationally and the girls also doing superbly to finish sixth out of 355 teams across the country. Thirteen of our runners were selected by KSAA to run for Kent in regionals and four represented the country at the highest level in the English Schools. Twenty-six athletes enjoyed a week’s training camp in Lanzarote. The season started with the Will Bolton Memorial Relays at Blackheath and Bromley AC where our students compete against club runners. The U15 boys did particularly well, placing third behind TAC U15A and hosts Blackheath and Bromley. Standout performances came from Fin Croll who was sixth fastest U15 boy and Tim McLain who was fourth fastest U13 boy. The junior girls won the Thomas Trophy at Sevenoaks Prep, led in by Eva Mathew in fourth place. The ESAA Cross Country Cup is one of the key events of the season and we were delighted to have all four teams qualify in the county round at Somerhill for the regionals at Judd. There, the competition got tougher and both our junior teams just missed out on qualification for nationals. However, it was there, at the nationals at Woodbridge School, that both inter teams did so well. Cross Country Top: Boys Senior Centre: Boys Inter Bottom: Boys Junior 80 SPORT REVIEW
