One of our new Lower Sixth joiners, Edoardo Leone,
certainly made his mark on the cross country team,
coming fifth at the tough King’s Trophy on Wimbledon
Common and winning both our own Simon Houghton
Trophy and the fixture at Lancing.
Our training camp in Lanzarote was a great success.
Students from Year 8 to the Upper Sixth participated
over October half term. We had good weather and
enjoyed some great running in the volcanic scenery.
As well as running and swimming, other activities
were available and students enjoyed everything from
‘Stretch and Relax’ to HIIT. There were several races;
Edoardo Leone and Ingmar Gunn finished first and
second in the triathlon and four students completed
their first ever half marathon, with very impressive
times from Fenton Davoren and Alex Evans.
Although our team result in the Knole Run wasn’t
quite as good as last year’s, there were some great
individual performances, with Ingmar Gunn placing
19th and Fenton Davoren 25th in the boys’ race and
Maddie Wise sixth and Alex Evans eighth in the girls’
race. In the Kent round of the KSAA Cup, Tim McLain
finished second, Anna Scheiner ninth, Maddie Wise
fifth, Alex Evans seventh and Teniqua Gomez ninth
in their respective age groups. Alex finished a very
impressive 44th in the prestigious English Schools
where she was second counter for Kent.
Our girls came fourth in the hugely competitive King
Henry VIII Relays in Coventry and the boys were 11th.
Our junior girls were fourth at Danes Hill and second
at Kent College, Pembury and we closed the season on
a high with our inter and senior runners dominating
the South London Harriers Schools races, scooping the
majority of the individual and team awards.
