We started working on Haroun in September,
experimenting with chorus-work ideas and ways of
presenting the scenes. After an informal audition
process I was given the part of Blabbermouth – a
comic character who disguises herself as a boy.
This character, and the play as a whole, was very
different to other styles of drama I have previously
explored. It depicts a crazy fantasy world full of witty
lines and over-the-top costumes. I loved becoming
immersed in the story and its many ups and downs
as the main character Haroun embarks on a
once-in-a-lifetime quest.
The best part of the process was the final week of
performances. Although stressful at times, it was
amazing to see all the months of work come together.
I love being part of a performance: there is a real
buzz about it. We really bonded as a cast and I have
made some great new friends. It was a hectic but
unforgettable experience.
