Royal Air Force The Royal Air Force Section enjoyed another successful year with a full calendar. The Year 10s won the Platoon Competition in Training Section and Sgt Max Manley was named as the best instructor. Years 10 and 11 then worked on their syllabuses, and executed many enjoyable command tasks organised by the NCOs. RAF cadets were represented in both the drill display team and the military skills competition team, and on the October Field Day we visited Bedgebury for mountain biking and team building exercises. The Gun Run team also secured victory during the Biennial Inspection. Happily, all cadets were given the opportunity to fly (and perform aerobatics) this year, the first time for many and a truly enjoyable experience. We also had a virtual tour of the USS Intrepid, a former American aircraft carrier and the aircraft on display on its flight deck. It was brilliant to see all the year groups present at the annual RAF dinner, organised by the Lower Sixth, and it was an opportunity for cadets and staff to bond over a shared passion of the RAF. It is sad to see such a brilliant group of keen and enthusiastic Upper Sixth leave, especially Flt Sgt Ned Geake, our Head of Section. We wish them all the best in their future and know that the enthusiasm of cadets replacing them will ensure the continued success of the section. Sgt Max Manley The CCF Shooting Section finished a very successful year of shooting with the Ashburton Schools Shooting meeting, competing against 50 other schools. We entered teams in the Ashburton Eight and the Schools Four which we won, and two of our cadets were placed amongst the top one hundred. S/Sgt Michael Presland SEVENOAKS SCHOOL 2018-2019 113
