A hugely successful season for the
boys. The 1st and 2nd teams have
a 71 per cent win rate, the U16A
have a 50 per cent win rate, and the
U15s 60 per cent.
Roehampton Schools Squash
Tournament
In January, the 1st team won one of the most
prestigious tournaments at school level, Roehampton
Public Schools’ Squash Tournament division 2. The
final was against King’s School Canterbury, and a
superb team effort saw us come through with a
3-2 win, with the deciding game going 15-13 in our
favour, symbolising the perseverance and passion that
has been so prevalent within the team. This effort saw
our 1st team promoted to the country’s first division
of the tournament, against teams like Harrow and
Eton. This allows future Sevenoaks 1st teams to
compete amongst the best schools in the country
in future years.
Kent Schools Cup
Another key achievement was the Kent Schools Cup,
where the U15 team saw their first tournament win
and the 1st team came second in their category, with
a narrow 3-2 loss to Langley Park in the final.
Second and third place at
National Plate Finals
A further demonstration of strength came at the
National Plate Finals in March, for which both the
U15 team and the 1st team managed to qualify.
The U15s beat Lancing College, RGS Newcastle and
Hymers College to make it into the final against St
Aidan’s Church of England Academy. They proved to
be too tough an opposition, meaning that the U15s
finished second in the plate.
The 1st team came third overall in their category,
losing to Exeter College after beating Reigate
Grammar and King’s Canterbury. The tournament,
in my opinion, was a great demonstration of
perseverance, as Reigate Grammar School was an
opponent the 1st team lost 4-1 to earlier in the
season. This time, we conjured up a 3-2 win. Coming
second and third respectively in the national finals
for schools is a satisfying achievement indeed.
