Badminton Strong individual performances and exceptional teamwork. The boys’ 1st team won seven out of ten matches, narrowly losing to the toughest of opponents, but including a notable 6-3 victory over Tonbridge School. The girls’ 1st team and mixed doubles team enjoyed considerable successes by winning all their matches. One moment on the highlight reel was the mini tournament we played against two other schools where we came out victorious after a series of doubles and singles matches. Oliver Lee was a force to be reckoned with, limiting his opponents to very few points. We created opportunities for our players to strengthen their skills by mixing up the usual roster in a way that would show off their individual talents. In our training sessions, our coaches planned out schedules to help members develop specific skills and strategies as well as endurance. Furthermore, the increasing number of players wanting to compete meant that more practice sessions were provided. This enabled us to create more effective training. Many thanks to Dr Owen for his continuous support and dedication to making this year’s badminton team a successful one. National Schools Championships Sevenoaks fielded four teams in the National Schools Badminton Championships, with the first qualifying round taking place at Sevenoaks in January. The standard was again very high, but all players represented the school admirably against strong opposition. The U16 girls’ team, consisting of Sophie Pryal, Lucy Bullock, Advitha Vasudevan, Abigail Scott and Venetia Barker, qualified for the county round.
