Epilogue

Dear Mom,

I know sometimes we have argued, and I have been embarrassed by you (those middle school years were full of embarrassment), but I am indebted to you and your kindness. You have helped me get through the toughest of times: staying up late with me to help print group projects, taking care of me while I was sick, driving me to and from school for so many years in that crazy traffic, dealing with my stress and teenage angst, and generally loving me no matter what. You have also celebrated with me by attending all of my choir concerts and tennis matches, and rooting for me when I was down. You have always been my problem solver, whether in dealing with friendship drama or what I should wear to school the next day. My friends have constantly gushed about how kind and helpful you are, and how you are on top of things even when everyone else is panicking. I haven’t appreciated enough those qualities you have.

Ultimately, thank you for being the best mom in the world. Thank you for raising me to be who I am today, and giving me your guidance. Thank you for putting stickers in my lunch kit every day in elementary school, my friends were always so jealous. Thank you to you and Dad, for supporting me not only in high school, but for my eighteen years of existence. I love you both tremendously.

Next year, I promise I’ll call (I know I’ll get an earful if I don’t). Try not to be too upset, like you are every time we say goodbye to Phillip at the airport and we make fun of you for it. I will miss you so much, and all of your help that you have given me. Thank you again for being the absolute best support system, friend, and mother.

Love,

Emily
