Prepare a Presentation
Maintain:
Good eye contact with your audience – It allows you to gauge the interest of the audience
and convey warmth, concern and so on. It is important to make eye contact with different
people at different times, not to switch too quickly, and also not to stare
Steady speed of delivery – Nerves make us speak faster, so make a conscious effort to
speak around 20% slower than you would on a one-to-one basis
Positive attitude – Remember that your audience don’t know if you make a minor mistake
– only you do, so if this happens, don’t worry about it and concentrate on delivering the
next section positively
Enthusiasm – If you don’t convey enthusiasm for your topic, how can you audience feel it?
Always:
Sound sincere
Make sure they remember you…for the right reasons!
EXERCISE
Observe at least 2 different people giving presentations. Note down what ‘little
things’ (like the things listed on the previous 2 pages) make the presentation GOOD
or POOR?
Think about what YOU can learn from this. What should you START to do (or do
more of)? And what should you STOP doing?
