STATION 6
Ceiba Trail
Greatness in the small
In the forest, insects fulfill important tasks
such as pollination and pest control of
other insects. Maybe in your hike you
have found:
Leaf-cutter ants: cut leaves and take them
to their nest to grow the fungus from
which they feed. Observe this mound of
earth with holes, it is actually an old ant
nest, try to appreciate its size.
Army ants: They feed on other insects,
many of which, in their flee, are eaten by
birds which follow these ants.
Bullet ants: Earned their name because of
the excruciating pain of their sting, as a
bullet shot. Beware of stray bullets.
