hummus MADE EASY
While there is a great variety of dishes across the Mediterranean,
hummus is the one staple you can enjoy from Spain to Turkey.
Flavorful, customizable and protein-rich, this chickpea dish can be used
as a dip or a spread, making it the perfect complement to vegetables and
flatbreads. To get you ready for your Mediterranean adventure, here’s a
tried-and-true recipe that will have you whipping up this international
crowd-pleaser in minutes.
INGREDIENTS:
• 1 can chickpeas (garbanzo beans)
• 1 large lemon or 4 tbsp. of lemon juice
• 1 - 2 garlic cloves
• 2 tbsp. high-quality tahini
• 1 tsp. fine sea salt
• 2 tbsp. cold water
• ¼ tsp. ground cumin
• 3 tbsp. extra-virgin olive oil
DIRECTIONS:
STEP 1: Drain and rinse the chickpeas.
Pro tip: take the skins off each chickpea
for creamier hummus.
STEP 2: Combine drained chickpeas, seedless
lemon juice, garlic (peeled and mashed), tahini,
salt, cumin and water in a food processor.
Blend for one to two minutes until smooth.
STEP 3: As the food processor spins, slowly
add olive oil and blend for another minute
until the hummus is light and creamy.
STEP 4: Taste and season with more salt,
transfer to your bowl and drizzle with a little
olive oil.
STEP 5: Enjoy with chips, pita bread,
sliced raw vegetables or even apples.
GARNISH OPTIONS:
• Baked, crispy chickpeas
• Sprinkled paprika for a splash of color
• Sesame seeds or toasted pine nuts
• Chopped fresh parsley
