Rising from the ashes

Story and photos by Eli Parker
In this day and age , it ’ s no secret that running a small , local business is an uphill battle , whether it ’ s competing with a corporate chain or making it through an entire pandemic . The hardest trials , however , are often those that come unexpectedly . One such trial occurred on August 4 , 2023 when a blazing fire struck the Tri-County Flea Market area in Burnside . In the middle of the night , a handful of small business-owners could only watch as their livelihoods burned and crumbled before their eyes . Despite the setbacks that resulted from this travesty , the businesses that once stood on those grounds were able to find new homes and build themselves back up and better than ever .
