What does it mean to shop local ?
We hear the phrase “ shop local ” all the time . On television , on the radio , even in our hometown newspaper , it ’ s a catchy two-word phrase that has all the punch of a million-dollar marketing firm behind it . Ironic , really , since for most the concept is the antithesis of those million-dollar corporations .
But have we really sat down and thought about the definition behind that phrase ? Does that refer only to sticking within our county ’ s borders ? Does it mean , as most people interpret it , to only shop at small businesses .
What is the sentiment behind the catchphrase . We here at SEKL wanted to find out , so we asked our readers on Facebook to give us a direction . And they have responded to that call with flying colors . Here are just a handful of their responses , possibly edited , as always , to clear up spelling and grammar issues , and to remove those emojis that so many people love to use ( but our printers can ’ t replicate well ).
