through the surgery included Stearns realizing he couldn ’ t eat like he was used to doing . It ’ s something he ’ s embraced head on and his incredible journey is proof of his success .
“ Sometimes you get psychologically hungry ,” Stearns explained .
“ You ’ re not physically hungry because I hardly ever get physically hungry now ,” he says . Before the surgery was a different story .
“ Progressively , my meals got bigger , and bigger and bigger . The more you eat , the more your stomach stretches , and the more it can hold , and the more it takes for you to feel full ,” Stearns said of his journey before the surgery .
“ Once I got my mind set this is what I was going to do , I just went with it ,” Stearns said of his decision to have the sleeve surgery .
“ It ’ s been a big lifestyle change but so far , it ’ s been good . I did it more for the health aspect of it . I just want to be around longer . The route I was going , it was destructive habits .”
To celebrate his 40th birthday the end of May , Stearns planned a trip to Hawaii which included some hikes . He ’ ll be completing his BSN from Union College soon and he ’ s looking forward to getting toned up at the gym .
“ I feel better at 40 than I did at 35 ,” he said .
