Prior to settling in their current space , the Fernandez family opened their ice cream shop in early 2021 . They resided in a hole in the wall location half the size of their current one , serving ice cream from a distributor . Eventually , they finally decided to rebrand and relocate , as they saw a “ bigger vision ” for the shop .
In addition to switching to homemade ice cream , the business also went through a name change . At the time , Fabiola ’ s three year-old granddaughter Genesis Grace ( GiGi for short ) showed much excitement towards her family running an ice cream shop - hence renaming it to GiGi ’ s Homemade Ice Cream .
Despite being deemed a “ big risk ” at the time , everything seemed to fall into place for GiGi ’ s new upstart .
Over time , the Fernandez family repurposed an empty suite into the cute , vibrant parlor it is today , with resurfacing the floors , repainting the walls , and constructing and painting their own booths .
They still believe they have a “ long way to go ,” as each family member has their own ideas moving forward . Some visions for the business include possibly adding a party section or arcade .
As for now , ideas that have been confirmed for this summer include expanding to catering and taking their business on the road with a food truck .
All the while , the Fernandez family will continue priding themselves on serving a tasty product while expanding the public ’ s horizons .
