The Kalpulli Ketzal Coatlicue (“Precious Mother Earth”) is a
Kalpulli (“learning community”) of Indigenous people joined by
the desire to learn, share and live the tradition of Aztec dance.
Ketzal Coatlicue pursues this spiritual, mental, and physical
vocation with music from the sacred drum, conch shells, seeds
and other instruments gifted by the natural environment.
Ketzal Coatlicue’s cultural learning center is located in South
Minneapolis. Corey Carlson and Severin Behnen lead the Blue Canvas
Orchestra in an evening of songs from the quintessential
pop rock group of the 60s - The Beatles. No funny hairdos or
outfits, just musical virtuosity by members of Big Top’s house
band, complete with string section, as they interpret their
favorite Beatles songs. Sing along with your favorites such as
“Yesterday,” “Let It Be,” “I Am the Walrus” and “The Long and
Winding Road.” In 2014 the dynamic team of Severin Behnen and Corey
Carlson put together our first Opry show which celebrated
the best of the Grand Ole Opry from the 30s, 40s and 50s. Our
next installment of great country and western music takes us
from the mid-60s through the early 80s with music from Opry
icons like Willie & Waylon, Dolly & Loretta, Johnny Cash,
Merle Haggard, Glen Campbell, Charley Pride and Tammy
Wynette. This show features the Blue Canvas Orchestra with
Corey Carlson and special guests Andy Dee, Randy Sabien, Joe
Savage, Danielle Diamond, Emily Belanger and Lizzie Herriott.
