Sea X Row (Interior Major Project) – Nkem Usiade | Page 13
Scandinavian design builds. Commonly located
around nature the design style features exaggerated
pitched or slopped roofs with large windows.
The form of these builds are a defining character
benefiting the spaces with more light and views.
The existing floor to floor height of the ground
floor is 2.3m, with the first floor being roughly
3.5-4.5; the space below the pitch having the most
head room. Taking inspiration of form from Scandinavian
builds, I plan on changing the roof to a
sloped roof. Making the exterior more exciting and
attractive.
The slope would start at the front of the site and
lead to the back, meaning the back of the first
floor would have large windows giving light and
favourable views to both the upstairs and downstairs.
I did some 3d concept models exploring my roof
changes as well glass walkway and boat store.

Chicago Boathouse,”Designed to echo the
rhythms of rowing”. This club exterior has Scandinavian
design trait of slopped roofs. The architects,
Studio Gang, actually conceptualised the roofs
unique form from the time lapsed movement of
rowing. Resulting in ‘M’ and upside down ‘V’ roofs.
The training room (left) is a stationary concrete
boat in a tidal/catchment pool.
I was inspired to design a viewing pontoon that
went beyond a simple open platform. I thought of
creating a pontoon that allowed the user to experience
how it is in competitive rowing.
