PAUL NICKLEN/NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC CREATIVE
Growing up among the Inuit in Canada’s
Arctic and spending time as a biologist in the
Northwest Territories has enabled National
Geographic photographer Paul Nicklen to
take on some of the most inhospitable places
on the planet, often working in sub-zero temperatures, suspended in freezing water. The
combination of skill, knowledge and passion
have allowed him to capture rare and intimate moments with elusive creatures like
polar, spirit and grizzly bears, leopard seals
and emperor penguins.
Join Nicklen for the complimentary
event, “Spirit of the Wild,” on June 20
in The Cloister Ballroom. He will share
unforgettable images and stories from his
travels to the Arctic, Antarctic and forests
of North America. Later that evening,
drinks and dinner will be served to guests
who reserve seats. On June 21, Nicklen will
host a special complimentary children’s
program titled “Polar Obsession,” in which
he will recreate the underwater experience
for kids and show them another world of
whales, walruses, polar bears, narwhals and
more. Call 888-881-7313 for reservations.

SEA ISLAND GOES SOCIAL
Climbing Genes
PETER HILLARY
has mountaineering running through his veins. He’s completed more than 38 expeditions, including his 1995 bid for K2. In 2008, he successfully reached his goal of climbing the “seven summits”—the highest peaks on each of the world’s continents. In
addition to his impressive mountaineering resume, Hillary raises funds for the people
of the Mount Everest region in Nepal, providing support for more than 42 schools and
medical clinics.
July 25-26 brings a special National
Geographic Live! event to Sea Island.
On July 25, join Hillary for a complimentary event in The Cloister Ballroom,
“Climb Your Own Everest with National
Geographic Explorer Peter Hillary,”
where he will share stories from his
travels. A cocktail reception and dinner
will follow in The Cloister Wine Cellar
for a limited number of attendees who
reserve seats. The following day, Hillary
will discuss the triumphs and philanthropy of his father in another complimentary event in The Cloister Ballroom.
