ABNORMALITY Hello, Here Ricardo Bedoya SCUMZINE journal BLOG, how are things in the band?, How they felt in Colombia? Hi Ricardo. Things are going really well and We are busier than ever. We had a great me in Colombia last November. Bogotá Grind Death Fest was sick!
1 ‐ How do you form the band? And where does the name?
Abnormality formed in late 2005 by myself and Jay Blaisdell( drums). We started talking through a local metal forum Return To The Pit. At first I did guest vocals with Jay ' s old band Tera sm, and a erwards we decided to form our own project which became Abnormality. The name we came up with a er much debate. We thought it fit our sound well enough, and wouldn ' t peg us into one sub‐genre.
2 ‐ Your latest album is " CONTAMINATING THE HIVE MIND ", which was conducted in 2012, what ' s new in the band? And has received acceptance you expected?
Contamina ng the Hive Mind was very well received in our area and around the world. We made two music videos from the album which have helped our music gain more exposure.
3 ‐ Tell us about the new album " THE HIVE MIND contamina ng "? and what you tell us about the produc on and mixing of this work?
We worked with same Producer and Engineer as our previous EP( The Collec ve Calm in Mortal Oblivion), Peter Rutcho of Damage Produc ons. He is a great producer and he really understood us as a band, and the sound we were going for.
4 ‐ What can be said of video ABNORMALITY " MONARCH OMEGA "?, What was edited?, Why this song? And what is the message of the song?
We chose Monarch Omega to do our first music video because it is a very aggressive song and the lyrics are very visual. The song is about Monarch Programming [ MK‐ULTRA ], from the point of view of the mind controlled assassin.
5 ‐ How was working with director Corey Gomes?
Corey has been a good friend of ours for many years. He has made a number of independent films. When we started thinking of the music video, I immediately thought of working with him. He is into the same types of conspiracy theories as us, so I knew he would be able to bring our vision to life.
6 ‐ Let ' s talk about how things were with the EP " THE CALM COLLECTIVE IN MORTAL OBLIVION "?, Does the reac on of the fans and the press extreme?
Our former EP was also well received. It helped us bring the band to new levels. A er the release of that album in 2010 we started touring more and playing more fes vals around the US.
7 ‐ How do abnormality musical composi on? And what is the issue?
We write in a few different ways. We jam at our prac ce space and write on the fly that way. Also we write riffs and lyrics at home ahead of me, and bring that to prac ce. All our members contribute to the music wri ng process.
8 ‐ Te l l u s a b o u t To u r " S E E O N T O U R ABNORMALITY "?, What shows? And what countries have you visited?, And bands that have accompanied them?
The next tour we are planning is Europe April 16‐May 3rd through Doomstar Booking Agency. That tour will be announced soon! We are going out with a couple of our favorite death metal bands.
9 ‐ Observe how the concert in Colombia? And What did you think of the Colombian scene?
The Colombian scene seems very ac ve and alive. We met many great male and female fans of the underground. The mosh pits were brutal and the other bands we shared the stage with were sick!
10 ‐ Are you planning to record new material, could give us something?
We are now wri ng songs for our next full length album which we plan to record and release in 2014.
11 ‐ How are things S E VA R E D R E C O R D S distribu on? And con nue with S E VA R E D RECORDS or planning seek new label?
Sevared has done great things for us, and helped distribute our music around the world! Barre is a great guy!
12 ‐ What does the cover of " CONTAMINATING THE HIVE MIND "? And how was the process of crea on with MALLIKA SUNDARAMURTHY?
I ' m an ar st and I have so far done our album covers. The concept for that cover was based on the tle track of that album.
13 ‐ What is the meaning of the tle of the " CONTAMINATING THE HIVE MIND "?
It ' s about waking up the masses from a controlled sleeping state to see the reality of what ' s going on in our world.
14 ‐ How was the recording of contamina ng THE HIVE MIND and support of Ma WAY?
The recording process was a li le slow, it took us a few months to get everything tracked. I have known Ma for a number of years. I am a big fan of his music and I consider him a friend. I simply asked him if he would lay down some guest vocals for the album, and he agreed.
15 ‐ This is a ques on for MALLIKA, how did you begin to be lead singer of a band AND TECHNICAL BRUTAL DEATH METAL?, What is your vocal technique? And Who influenced you as a singer?
I started prac cing vocals since about 1998, just as a fan of the music. I joined my first band in 2003 and I got more serious about music as me went on. I went to university to study art and design, but I met a lot of musicians while I was there and also got deeper into the metal scene. Chris Barnes was an early influence, later Ma Way, Frank Mullen, and Joe Horvath and more.
16 ‐ What is the scene MASSACHUSETTS?
The scene in Massachuse s is very strong. We have many good bands in different subgenres of extreme music, death, black, thrash, and grind. It has been a very inspiring and influen al place to have grown up.
