PARASITIZED

1 ‐ How did parasi zed form ?
Adam and I are brothers , we have been playing together since 2004 with various other musicians . In 2008 we decided to scrap the project we were working on at the me in order to start Parasi zed with the bassist from our old band . We also brought in Tom Walker on drums and Sam Willson on second guitar and started wri ng material that became our debut EP " Existence Unveiled ".
2 ‐ What happened a er the release of " Existence Unveiled "?
For a long me nothing happened , Adam and I spent all of our money to record the EP , we didn ' t even have enough to press CDs so we released it online in early 2010 hoping to make enough money to press CDs . Unfortunately the EP was largely ignored un l we were approached by Blast Head records in 2011 , they had heard the EP online and believed in it enough to want to release it on CD , so in Febrary 2012 , almost 3 years a er it was recorded the EP was officially released on CD and received incredibly strong online reviews but was once again ignored by the tradi onal forms of music press such as magazines .
Since that me we ' ve played with some great bands such as Aborted , Ulcerate , Pros tute Disfigurement etc .
3 ‐ How has been the acceptance of CD by the press and fans ?
It ' s been very mixed , every review of the EP has been amazing ! I think the worst score I ' ve seen it given was 4 / 5 which is great ! Unfortunately though , as I said before none of the major magazines or blogs have cared to review it which is a shame .
4 ‐ Tell us about the EP " Existence Unveiled "? And how was the recording and mixing process ?
We recorded in May 2009 , at Element studios in Hull with Dan Foster . I think it took about 14 days in total , working late into the night . Drums , Adam ' s guitars and vocals were all recorded without a hitch but our bassist and second guitarist weren ' t properly prepared so extra me had to be spent on those parts with Adam eventually recording most of the second guitar parts himself . Not long a er the recording was finished we parted ways with both Joel ( bass ) and Sam ( guitar ).
5 ‐ What is the cover of " EXISTENCE UNVEILED "?
The cover was hand illustrated by French . Existence Unveiled was largely inspired by Existen al Philosophy , the song itself is an adapta on of part of " The Nausea " by Jean Paul Sartre and the cover is composed of an amorphous and vague individual existent , as encountered by the novel ' s protagonist Antoine Roquen n during his bouts of " Nausea " and existen al despair .
6 ‐ How ' s the job of BLAST HEAD AND SEVARED RECORDS in the distribu on ? And I get to work with the two seals ?
Blast Head records paid for the CDs to be pressed and released and they have some kind of distribu on deal with Savared records . I don ' t really know the details other than that .
7 ‐ What are you talking about the issues of " EXISTENCE U N V E I L E D "? and What is the tle of the E P " EXISTENCE UNVEILED "?
Like I men oned earlier , most of the EP addresses existen al themes . " Existence Unveiled " and the intro track " The Nausea " are both based on Sartre ' s novel of the same name ; " Flesh Harvest " seeks to undermine Man ' s perceived superiority over other creatures , " Beyond the Fron ers of Pain " is based on the play " Caligula " by Albert Camus about the Roman Emperor , who due to the death of his Sister , comes to understand that life has no meaning and seeks to take this thought to it ' s ul mate conclusion ; " Feast of the Hyperboreans " is based on Nietzche ' s " The An christ ", it is a call to arms against the weak and insidious nature of Chris anity as a method for controlling those of us who are above such childish no ons . The excep on to this Existen al theme is " Darkness Shall Purge " which deals with more tradi onal horror themes and was inspired by the Novel " House of Leaves " by Mark Z . Danielewski .
8 ‐ How is the UK death metal scene ?
In my opinion it ' s very poor indeed . There is li le to no opportunity for up and coming bands to progress , gigs and tours are only available to those who can afford and are prepared to buy onto them . The major metal labels don ' t even look at bands that require any investment or nurturing on their part , the metal press is completely ignorant to them too . The quality of a band ' s music is almost irrelevant to their success , what counts is who you know in the industry and / or silly marke ng gimmicks .
Turnouts at gigs are low and the scene in the UK is stagnant with many of the be er bands in the country being completely ignored in favour of lesser bands who know the right people or have become flavour of the month with fickle fans .
9‐What do you think about the modern brutal death scene ?
Personally I don ' t listen to much modern brutal death metal apart from a few key bands , Tom Walker ( drums ) is the person that really brings that influence into our music . Adam and I are more into old and mid school death metal as well as early 90 ' s second wave black metal and 60 ' s / 70 ' s onward doom , sludge , stoner , psych etc .
10 ‐ What are your influences ?, In music , literature and horror movies , What inspires you most ?
Our biggest influences musically are probably Decapitated , Death , Aborted , Cannibal Corpse , Behemoth , Origin etc but we also draw influence from Carcass , Entombed , Psycrop c , Deicide , Brodequin , Defeated Sanity , all over the death metal spectrum ! We also include some doom and black metal influences from me to me , Asunder , Graves at Sea , Burzum , Immortal etc .
In terms of literature we are inspired by epics like Milton , Dante etc classics like Hemingway , Edgar Allen Poe , Philosophy , holy texts , anything about witchcra , paganism or the occult , Medieval history like the Inquisi on , H . P . Lovecra etc , etc
Horror in cinema does influence our music too , we appreciate the work of Romero and Fulci , Stuart Gordon , Sam Raimi , Tobe Hooper and Roger Corman to name a few . Its rare I think to be very conscious of how and what exactly is influential , most of the time the influence is not direct but I can think of one example ; When Leather Face is chasing Sally Hardesty through the brush before the final scene of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre , he is revving the saw like crazy . It is super loud , really aggressive and visceral . Its hard to watch ! I immediately wanted to recreate that with guitar parts and tone .
