4 Let's talk about was like recording and mixing the new album "The Deceived”? , How were those days Soundlodge STUDIO? And how was the experience of recording in Soundlodge STUDIO? In 2012 we already agreed with Soundlodge to record our new album there. Because of the line up changes and the fact that we threw away everything we had wri en so far, we started recording in 2013. All the songs on the album are new (except for 'They live, they suffer, they die'). Working with Soundlodge (Jorg Uken) was great. They really took the album to a new level and a er the mixing and mastering period we think the album got the sound it deserves. 5 What can you tell us about "The Deceived"? And what is the response of the fans on this new work of the band and extreme press? Things got a li le crazy. Of course with the signing of Metal Blade, things really took off. We released two single songs before the en re album came out and the responses to those songs were already great. People couldn't wait for the album and we were swamped with interviews. A er the album got out in August things got even crazier. Overall the responses are very good. We get great reviews on the music and a lot of exposure as a band. 6 What is the meaning and the inspira on of the Deceived"? tle of the CD "The Everybody can give his or her own interpreta on to the album. The songs are wri en like they are viewed from mul ple sides. The inspira on comes from different events that took place in history but also our own experiences with life. 7 What does the cover and the tle of "The Deceived" mean and what is the thema? The cover and tle is a reference to the main theme, which is running as thread through the whole album. 'The Deceived' is the name we chose because it represents everybody. Everybody has been deceived some mes and the stories we tell on the album cannot always be interpreted in one way. We figured that 'The Deceived' is a perfect collec ve name for all the songs combined. We were fortunate enough to be able to design the en re artwork ourselves. Every page, every picture and every emo on was created by Sonja's pictures and York's Photoshop/ar s c skills. We took our me to not only create piece together our artwork, but also making it match/fit perfectly with the music and the lyrics. Here Ricardo Bedoya SCUMZINE magazine, how are things in the band? Hi Ricardo, thank you so much for taking your me to talk to us! Things are very well! 1 Let's start talking about how the band was formed, you tell us the story? Of course! The band was formed in 2006 by Sonja and me (Jessica). We both love death metal and we both played the guitar so we wanted to write our own music. Band members were soon found and we immediately started wri ng and recording. The reviews were very promising and we did a lot of great shows. In 2010 we recorded our first full-length album 'Summary of Retribu on' and right a er that, things really took off for Dictated. In 2013, we had a rough year. We really needed to record our new album and all of the band members (except for Sonja and me) quit Dictated to focus on their personal lives and other bands. So there we were, just the 2 of us. During that me we got in contact with Henri Sa ler (God Dethroned) and he inspired us to con nue the band and get a new album going. We threw everything aside and started wri ng new material together with Henri and Michiel vd Plicht (God Dethroned). As soon a York joined Dictated, we were whole again! 2 "SUMMARY OF RETRIBUTION" is your first album in 2010, what was the me for the band? And how things were on sale at CD "SUMMARY OF RETRIBUTION"? I see 'Summary of Retribu on' as the beginning of Dictated. The cd was home- recorded and (when I look back to that period) was a huge learning process. We had to do everything ourselves. From recordings to artwork. We released it ourselves and somehow, it got peoples a en on. We were swamped with shows and good reviews. 3 What was that tour with ORIGIN? Ah yes, our first big tour in 2012. At that me, we found ourselves a booking agency who introduced this possibility to us. We decided to take this huge opportunity and we toured with Origin and Psycrop c in Europe. It was a huge experience. Once you have felt the feeling of being on the road and play shows every day, making new fans, you realize why you are a musician.
