my sleeve. Heather is a sucker for a spa day. So, a private spa at a hot spring was just what the doctor ordered. A leisurely 45-minute kayak on a two-man open top kayak, with one person doing most, if not all of the paddling, got us to the hot springs of Sangat. For two hours we alternated immersing ourselves in the hot, hot water followed by the relatively cool water of the sea. The kayak back was a bit longer, the overly relaxed muscles took time to build up power and the sea life and birds along the cliffs were a wonderful distraction.
They say time passes quickly when you’ re having fun. Time passed far too quickly here. Soon it was the morning of the last day and after two dives on Marus, lunch came and we had to leave. Returning to Coron Town was a hardship, the noise and people were too much for our rapidly adjusted senses.
For those who need to get away from the hustle and bustle of towns, to those who need an escape that a non-diving partner will enjoy, Sangat resort has it all.

Essentials

GETTING THERE: There is no longer a direct flight from Manila to Busanga( Coron), so we had to island hop via Cebu. To avoid Manila entirely, I would consider taking the international flight to Cebu. Cathay Pacific flies London to Hong Kong, Hongkong to Cebu, or Air Singapore flies from London to Cebu via Changi Airport in Singapore. singaporeair. com
BOOK IT: Will’ s resort of choice is Sangat Island Resort, sangat. com. ph
ALTERNATIVE CENTRES: Coron Town has lots of dive centres. I’ ve experienced several and there’ s only one I would recommend, Reggae Dive Centre. They offer day trips out to do two or three dive days and offer full kit rental. reggaedivecenter. com. ph
ACCOMMODATION: Decent accommodation, with sunset pool views can be found for as little as £ 25 per night for two sharing, including breakfast. There are various bars, restaurants and even a very good brewery, Coron Brewery.
FUN AND RUM: The Coron to El Nido Island Safari is an absolute must. Travel for 2-5 nights between islands, on a large Banka boat, surrounded by paradise. Accommodation is in glamping pods, which Heather loved, and you get to enjoy fresh Pinoy cuisine and relatively empty beaches. Evening entertainment is rum, karaoke, rum, fire dancing and rum. I personally stuck to the rum. Another point to note, this is not like an 18-30 holiday, we are both in our, cough, forties and we were by far not the oldest.
