Open circuit SCUBA kit is on the whole pretty resilient. A good rinse / hose down after use and it’ s very likely to keep going and going until it’ s time for an annual service.
Things are a little more involved for Closed Circuit Rebreather( CCR) users.
Rinsing, disinfecting and drying the breathing loop is of course important, but it’ s the‘ head’ of the rebreather that contains those all-important electronics and oxygen cells where moisture is the greatest enemy.
Not all CCR heads are the same, but they do all require constant monitoring for potential corrosion among their delicate electrics. Keeping the O2 sensors dry too will prevent both false readings and prolong their lifespan.
If you’ re diving your unit abroad or during a UK heatwave, then natural drying will obviously be enhanced compared with cold and damp conditions. In such cases, even leaving overnight to dry can have little effect. This is particularly so when diving from a liveaboard, on expedition or at remote locations.
The dryer is a compact unit and can be used with the rebreather head in-situ to dry the loop
