Fittingly, the evening was dominated by youngsters having fun on the dancefloor, where the club had placed several large – though not indestructible – balloons. Meanwhile, parents and former students enjoyed the bar and gourmet burgers provided by a local food truck business, Dicko’ s Diner. A club quiz was followed by the screening of a new promotional film showcasing KEJC’ s activities [ it can be viewed at https:// bit. ly / KEJSC60 ] and a video from National Diving Officer Sophie Rennie offering her congratulations. Then there was a rousing speech from KEJC’ s Diving Officer Nick Stevens, a driving force behind the club’ s ethos.
“ It has been an honour to lead this amazing club for over 33 years and see so many amazing children develop into wonderful adults and divers,” Nick said.“ This gala has reflected that achievement and our club’ s remarkable history. As an event, it has brought together past and current members to celebrate that legacy as BSACs oldest snorkelling club, and showcased our sport and our passion to the wider diving community and beyond.”

SCUBA Editor Simon Rogerson was on hand to present an anniversary certificate on behalf of BSAC.“ What you have achieved with your club is unique,” Simon said on the night.“ I look around the room and see generations of snorkellers who have benefitted not just from being in the water, but all the learning and socialising that goes with snorkel training. You have a wonderful club and I wish you another 60 years of snorkelling success.”
