photography in and around the South Devon coastline . Held at the beginning of June , there were four categories – Beginner , Compact Camera , Macro and Wide-angle – as well as the overall popular vote , chosen by attendees of the afterevent dinner .
The Splash-in is organised by Torbay BSAC and is open to divers and snorkellers from across the South West Region . This year , Peter Rowlands , editor of Underwater Photography magazine , was the judge . He selected Milayna Arthurs ( Beginner ), Tony Reed ( Compact Camera ) and Simon Temple ( Wide-angle and Close-up ) as this year ’ s category winners . Meanwhile , Jo Rabineau ’ s cuttlefish was chosen as the People ’ s Choice top vote .
Torbay BSAC ’ s Tim Allen said that since its launch , the Splash-in had gone from strength to strength .
“ On-the-day Splash-in competitions are always challenging for the underwater photographer , and this year was no exception . Due to poor local weather conditions , the organisers had to open up the competition to areas outside of Torbay . Nevertheless , we attracted a good number of excellent entries from some very talented photographers , most of whom attended the judging and presentation dinner held the same evening in Torquay .”
Tim said he was now looking forward to the Splash-in returning next year .
“ 2024 will be our eighth consecutive year . Incidentally , this will also be the 70th Anniversary of the founding of Torbay branch No 0008 !”
