Rebecca Birch after her dive
Who are your members ?
They are a mixed group from our youngest snorkellers ( aged 6 ) to our oldest member , who is in his 70s . A large proportion of club members are under-18s . At present the scuba divers are : three Advanced Divers ; one Sports Diver ; five Ocean Divers and six trainees .
You integrate snorkelling and scuba diving in an unusual way …
Well , our club was founded to train younger snorkellers ; recently we ’ ve moved to starting scuba training when the snorkellers are trained and old enough . All students ( adults and children ) complete BSAC snorkelling qualifications before progressing on to scuba diving , unless they are transferring to us with existing BSAC or PADI scuba diving qualifications .
When can the children start snorkelling ?
To join Tameside Divers , you must be at least six years of age and be able to swim six lengths of the pool ( two freestyle , two back crawl and two of your own choice ). You also need to be able to pick up a brick
