Suunto ’ s menus are easy to navigate
Finland-based Suunto has been a leader in dive computers since the launch of its first model , the Suunto SME-ML , back in 1987 . The familiar circular screen of its benchmark models is still a major fixture on dive boats all over the world , with devotees consistently choosing the computers for their ease of use , clear displays and reliability .
Suunto also led the way with the advent of wristwatch-style computers , and remained on trend when oblong format colour LED screens became popular in the early 2000s . Other innovations have been ushered in since , but Suunto was a little slow off the blocks when it came to incorporating multi-sports applications into its diving range .
For some time , Suunto resisted the notion of creating a dive computer with multi-sports capability , but now it ’ s here – a rechargeable sports watch that will do practically everything bar making your bacon sandwiches . So , is the Suunto Ocean the game-changer everyone ’ s hoping for ?
Aesthetically , the Ocean is classic Suunto , all smooth lines , streamlined and it sits nicely the wrist as an everyday timepiece . Its stainlesssteel bezel , sapphire crystal glass and glassfibre reinforced polyamide case weighs in at 99g and the silicone strap , available in a variety of colours , is very comfortable .
Just a smidgeon under 50mm in diameter and 13mm high , the watch features a backlit AMOLED screen and is powered by a rechargeable lithium-ion battery with up to 60 diving hours between charges .
If you ’ re into surface land or water-based sports , then you won ’ t be disappointed . Swimming , cycling , mountaineering , weight training and yoga are all supported , with weather too plus activity tracking for heart rate , calories , sleep and HRV measurement .
Use its Bluetooth connectivity to connect to your mobile device for the option to control the music you ’ re listening to in addition to downloading your activities to the Suunto app .
Navigating through the various menus is via swipe-and-tap and / or a three-button system . Swiping up or down moves through displays and menus , right-left to move back and forth in displays and simply tap to select .
The upper button is used to select recently-used modes or define and open shortcuts , middle button to select an item , open settings or go back a step , while the
