TRAVELSPECIAL
Propeller of the Hilma Hooker
Hilma Hooker
The wreck of the Hilma Hooker offers Bonaire ’ s equivalent to the Red Sea ’ s Giannis D , an intact and distinctive wreck lying on its starboard side at 27m , with the highest point at 15m . Accessible from either shore or boat , this dive provides wreckies with their dose of rust . Buoys are attached to the bow and stern , and either a surface swim or an underwater swim with a compass will take you to the wreck .
Many dives start at the bow and head toward the stern with a torch recommended to investigate the large holds and living quarters through the many openings . On many dives you will see resident tarpon lazily swim by . Ending the dive at the stern , the rudder and propeller are worth a visit before ascending the port side of the hull to its highest point and finally returning to the reef to complete any necessary stops .
