Skills and thrills book your SDCs now !
LOOKING TO DEVELOP YOUR DIVING over the coming 12 months ? Then BSAC ’ s schedule of Skill Development Courses ( SDCs ) for 2023 is now live online and ready to book . The latest SDC course listings for next year have been released as part of BSAC ’ s annual programme of regional training events for divers and snorkellers . More SDCs will added to the list over the coming months as they are confirmed .
The 2023 SDC course list aims to offer skill development opportunities to all members and are delivered through BSAC ’ s regional network . From club diving and diver safety to specialist interest courses , the 2023 SDC programme builds on the success of 2022 which saw BSAC regional training return to pre-Covid levels .
To cater for demand , the 2023 programme will also include ad-hoc courses where they are needed . So , if there isn ’ t the relevant SDC listed , members can liaise directly with their Regional Coach to discuss specific skill development training requirements .
With places on some SDCs still available for the rest of 2022 , there is , says BSAC Diving and Training Advisor , Julia Branagan , plenty of opportunity to develop in and out of water skills .
“ The next 18 months offers a wide range of training and skill development opportunities for all members , whether that is within your BSAC region or through your club . So , now ’ s the time to plan ahead and discover where 2023 can take your training and diving !”

DIVING AND SNORKELLING CAN BE transformational , and BSAC wants to hear from members who have used their love of the water to overcome personal challenges - either physical , mental , or emotional .
Kingston and Elmbridge club member Deborah Butler shared her autistic daughter ’ s experiences of scuba diving and BSAC club life .
Deborah said : “ My daughter Zoe was diagnosed with autism when she was just two years old . At the time she was non-verbal , and has spent much of her education in specialist schooling . Zoe has always had a thirst for knowledge and has an amazing ability to learn if things are presented in an autistic-friendly way . She has always enjoyed being in and around water .
“ My daughter ’ s love for diving has continued to grow because she finds that when she is underwater she can forget all her worries about the real world ; essentially every dive gives Zoe a little break from being autistic .”
