Shallow water laps against a Shetland shore
I definitely look for the light now. If it’ s a lovely sunny day I’ ll just grab my kit and go for a snorkel – it’ s some of the most beautiful scenery in Shetland, above or below the water.”
Billy has amassed a beautiful portfolio of Shetland’ s shallow seas, including the trickiest of underwater photographs, the fabled‘ half-and-half’. It depicts a shoreside building known as a‘ böd’ at Nebister, its surrounding seabed like a submerged garden.“ It’ s a lovely spot for a walk and the water there is really shallow, ideal for this type of photography,” says Billy.“ A few moon jellies started coming in at the start of last summer and it was knee-deep water, which made it easier to take this photo. Rather than bobbing around I could just stand and plonk the camera in to get the shot.”
The resulting image is pure Shetland.
