Back to Stac Lee
Still high on adrenaline from the morning ’ s epiphany , we dropped on to the South side of Stac Lee . I heard a booming underwater which drew me closer , relatively shallow to a series of caverns and caves at around 20m . The others had stayed deeper so enjoyed the wall below me , while I made friends with a curled octopus just outside the caves .
Village Bay , Hirta
We moored up for the night in Village Bay . This allowed us to explore the main settlements and I also took advantage of the opportunity for a night dive under the boat . The shallow sandy bottom initially looked an uneventful dive site but I soon saw another curled octopus and many flatfish . My buddies surfaced excitedly to report seeing the mollusc Arctica islandica ; it may appear unassuming , but is is in fact one of the longest living animals on earth .
