Roy Sherwin – a tribute
Teddington Sub- Aqua Club ( TSAC ) has announced the loss of one of their founding members , Roy Sherwin , following a short illness . A familiar face on the UK diving scene , National Instructor Roy also played an active role in the Regional Coaching Scheme .
TSAC ’ s Social Secretary , Christine Corner pays tribute :
Roy will be missed not only by TSAC but by many people in the BSAC diving world . As a National Instructor and leader of many courses , he has helped many divers across the UK and contributed many thousands of hours to instructor training .
Roy first learnt to dive in the army and was one of the founding members of TSAC back in 1995 . Over the years , Roy was the driving force behind diving training and leading expeditions . He always had enormous patience with anyone finding their early diving experiences challenging , and his persistence with ‘ getting it right ’ was always combined with good humour and fun .
He was Diving Officer of the club across many of its years , sometimes Training Officer and was always there to help . He also helped found PURE - the first BSAC underwater rugby club in the UK - and was one of the key organisers of the first international underwater rugby competition .
Roy was very fond of organising and taking part in expeditions to the four corners of the UK and to different foreign locations ; he had organised a trip this year to the Arctic Circle .
Alongside his diving interests , Roy was a keen collector of fossils and rare bottles . Being an only child with adoptive parents , Roy doesn ’ t leave many family behind but has a huge circle of diving friends who will all miss him very much .
