UKDIVING
Stalked jellyfish range from minuscule ( 5mm across ) to almost 1.5cm across , as species and season dictate . Diving off the beach at Kimmeridge Bay in 2020 saw a proliferation of these fascinating creatures attached to the soft seaweeds in the bay . Their diminutive size hides quite fascinating symmetrical structures .
One morning in early summer , we decided to head to Kimmeridge for an early morning dive before the beach became busy with tourists . On this morning , the sun was shining , the tide was high , and we were treated to sun rays bursting through the water into the masses of ‘ hairy ’ bootlace weed , all at their physical prime . The weeds were littered with molluscs , among them a variety of shelled snails and several species of stalked jellyfish .
