means helping to maintain kit, tidying the room and checking items in and out, also keeping record of used gas.”
Both young people got involved in diving with their families. Delilah tells me she joined the club with her family in 2023. Skye says:“ I was introduced to diving by my dad. Later, my mum also became a diver, making it a family hobby which makes it even more enjoyable.
“ I started with swimming and my passion grew, so I moved onto snorkelling. Earning my Dolphin qualification wasn’ t enough; I was desperate to join my parents in the art of diving and being around people and family who dive made me want to be involved even more.”
When I ask about favourite dives, the young women have plenty to say.“ Diving at the weekends is my favourite activity,” says Delilah, who has 23 dives logged, all in the UK at Stoney Cove, Plymouth and Capernwray.“ My favourite place to dive is Capernwray,” she says,“ because of the sturgeon. I enjoy seeing the wildlife and getting up close to it.”

Delilah: My Beuchat Maxlux mask“, because it’ s funky and coral coloured. And we both use LOG-IT diving log books.( logitshop. com)”

Skye: I would have to say regulators“. I’ m interested in how they work and I’ m learning about the different parts from my dad, who services regulators. Oh, and I love my pink reg hoses!

Skye, who also has 23 open-water dives logged, says:“ We usually go to Stoney Cove on adventures to all the wrecks, but I have to say my favourite dives have been in Jamaica, with my parents. These were my first ever ocean dives; the scenery, fish and colours of all of it made me love diving even more, honestly this was one of the best experiences of my life.”
As for logging dives, both use a LOG-IT dive log with plenty of space to write down notes, information and everything about every single dive. Skye takes care to log anything that may have changed between dives too.
“ I refer back to my notes quite a bit to check weights and conditions of dives,” Delilah adds. Finally, we talk about the nature of volunteering and why it is so rewarding. Skye explains that while it may be hard work, it’ s all worth it to contribute toward

the club.“ You will be highly appreciated and thanked for the things you do, and no good deed goes unnoticed.” Not only does it make the club better, she says, it also makes you feel like you have given back to the club for the amazing things it gives you as a member.
“ The club gave me passion, drive and a love for diving, but also friends who support me and teach me about diving, which is something I’ m grateful for,” says Skye.
I wonder what advice the pair would give to other young people who might be wondering about joining a club.“ I’ m trying to be unbiased,” says Skye,“ but I would say join our club, Bingham BSAC, because not only does it teach you so much, it also gives you a community of fellow divers / snorkellers, a sort of family in a way, which makes it even more enjoyable to be involved.”
Delilah adds:“ Have a good sense of humour; there are lots of jokes, usually we are the butt of them, but we give as good as we get. Go for a try dive and meet the members. Come to our club; it’ s very welcoming and fun.”
