Mustard for President !
RENOWNED UK PHOTOGRAPHER , DR Alex Mustard MBE has been named as the new President of the British Society of Underwater Photographers ( BSoUP ).
Alex is the fifth person to take on the role , following Peter Scoones , David George , Peter Rowlands and Brian Pitkin , who passed away in 2021 .
Founded in 1967 , BSoUP was created to help its members with the challenges of underwater photography and to create memorable imagery .
With a Ph . D in marine ecology , Alex has been a full-time photographer since 2004 . As an award-winning underwater photographer , he has also been a member of BSoUP ’ s committee for 25 years . In 2018 , Alex was awarded an MBE from Queen Elizabeth II for his services to underwater photography .
BSoUP Chair , Nur Tucker said Alex ’ s appointment would help to showcase the innovation and creativity within the British underwater photography scene .
“ We ’ re thrilled to welcome Alex as our President as we continue to inspire and inform underwater photographers and push the boundaries of photographic excellence beneath the waves ,” she explained .
“ Alex is an experienced , energetic and selfless mentor , and all members will benefit from his dedication to help us create powerful images underwater . As a leading innovator in underwater photography , he is ideally placed to help elevate the name of BSoUP in Britain as well as around the world .”
Scotland completes its snorkel trails
THE SCOTTISH WILDLIFE TRUST HAS completed plans for 13 snorkel trails , with the final two – the Small Isles and Orkney – now open to the public .
Aiming to showcase the diversity within the seas around Scotland , the Trust started its ambitious project to create a network of self-guided snorkel trails back in 2016 . With a goal of 13 trail locations , the Trust worked with coastal community groups to establish a total of 80 different snorkel sites across the whole trail network .

BSAC HAS BECOME A FULL MEMBER OF THE WELSH SPORTS ASSOCIATION ( WSA ), in order to better support clubs and members who dive and snorkel in Wales .
BSAC joins the WSA as a Full Member , looking to take advantage of its DBS checking service for the sport and leisure sector , and partner offer with IT provider Sport : 80 , as well as collaborating with the WSA ’ s membership network and like-minded organisations .
BSAC CEO , Mary Tetley , said she was delighted that BSAC had become a member of the WSA . “ We have a number of Welsh scuba clubs and a vibrant university club in Cardiff . We are looking forward to strengthening our connections in Wales and working with the WSA .”
