UKDIVING hexagonal object , later identified as possibly a stern compass binnacle . Further on a gun lay across the wreckage on its side ; the other divers saw boxes of ammunition . We came across something for heat exchanging , or part of the condenser . In our final minutes Will found a plate , cleaning off 100 years of sediment to show a maker ’ s mark and a naval anchor insignia .
With these discoveries alone , we knew we had found HMS Jason . When everyone else surfaced able to compare notes and check against the ship ’ s plans , we were certain . Before any announcements , though , there was a second dive on the wreck to look forward to . Our kit preparation was all efficiently completed , allowing us to relax in the rather splendid Coll Hotel , and have a group call with Kevin . For the second dive , he asked us to go towards what we now knew to be the bow , to see what we could find .
