I can see Grimsby & Cleethorpes now

ONE OF MY PROUDEST MOMENTS AS A DIVER AND grandfather was when my grandson , Max Rodger , passed his Ocean Diver course recently , aged 13 .
A diver myself for 45 years , I was a little shocked when Max asked if he could do a dive in Skegness aquarium as a birthday gift . He really enjoyed the experience , with his nervous mum watching through the public aquarium viewing area .
Max then came to Grimsby and Cleethorpes for pool nights and joined the great BSAC to continue his training , and then to open water . Now Max seems keener than ever to continue diving and looking forward to getting into the sea
Grimsby and Cleethorpes no 37 has a large influx of very keen young divers like Max , and now after the end of Covid restrictions things are really looking good for our club . With great instructors Dave Horton , Dave Cook and Kevin Wishart doing an absolute superb job in bringing students through their pool training and then onto open water . It ’ s all done in a very professional manner , so the club ’ s future is looking good . These students are the future of our club . PETER RODGER , Grimsby and Cleethorpes 37

Ear fears : A brandy solution ?

I READ WITH SYMPATHY JOHN WARD ’ S TALE OF WOE RELATING TO HIS OUTER EAR FUNGAL INFECTIONS [ SCUBA Chat , June 2022 ]. I have had similar , though lesser problems in the past . Now , I am only an old and long retired GP but an ENT Consultant friend of mine would say “ never put anything in the outer ear than 50 percent alcohol or aluminium acetate ear drops ” ( apart from your elbow , of course ). Aluminium acetate has to be freshly prepared , but 50 percent alcohol is widely available . After each dive I put a few drops of the local brandy in my ears and have had no further trouble . It ’ s harmless , and worth a try to maintain the position after using Canesten . ( Dr ) David WHEELER Carlisle A364469
