CLUBFOCUS
First open water dive celebrations
Angharad in Croatia
What next ?
Quite simply , going diving ; and not taking it for granted . Club members have missed being able to ‘ just go diving ’ more than anyone thought . It ’ s also worth saying that the club means more than diving ; for a lot of members , there are the friendships and the camaraderie , the social interaction and laughter too . We have felt very blessed to have the sea nearby and sympathise with other clubs who haven ’ t . I think we ’ ve all accepted now that we can ’ t plan with certainty for the time being , but it hasn ’ t stopped our enthusiasm . We have local dive trip weekends organised for May and June , and one of our long-standing members has a club trip planned to Mull in September , which we feel will go ahead .
… and in the next 45 years ?
We want to enjoy at least another 45 years of safe and fun diving . We are hoping to try to acquire our own official club premises . As well as encouraging younger divers , we would like to recruit experienced divers to maintain a healthy sustainable flow of divers for the future . Qualified diver recruits have enjoyed the crossover to BSAC training through our club and they have fully embraced UK diving . Also , in recent years we have had an increase in family groups , which has been a very welcome and helpful addition to our club .
We will continue making everyone welcome : youngsters and the young at heart ; all genders ; the able and less able ; the Welsh and those from foreign parts ( such as England ); experienced divers ,
returning lapsed divers and complete novices . We will continue enjoying the odd Octopush evening , where there is a liberal interpretation of the ( English ) rules and a rugby slant to CSAC ’ s version of the game .
The social life and friendships formed within our club have during the last 15 months proved to be important . We couldn ’ t go diving all the time because of restrictions , but we kept doing other stuff and discovered more about each other and our respective families . One of our strengths is that our non-diving family members are an equally important and integral part of our club in so many different ways . We are constantly eager to welcome new members and develop existing members , helping to keep diving in West Wales firmly alive .
