Snapper shootout for September
PHOTOGRAPHERS CAN NOW SIGN UP for this year ’ s British & Irish Underwater Photography Championship ( BIUPC ), which will take place on Saturday , 4 September .
The one-day underwater ‘ shootout ’ is open to images taken by underwater photographers from around Scotland , Wales , Ireland , Northern Ireland and England . Organised by BSoUP ( British Society of Underwater Photographers ), the competition will culminate in the presentation of the Peter Scoones trophy , in memory of one of BSoUP ’ s co-founders , and the title of British & Irish Underwater Photography Champion .

During the 24-hour competition ( 10pm on the Friday to 10pm on the Saturday ), photographers must take and then electronically submit their images from anywhere in the geographical boundaries of Britain and Ireland .
The competition includes two open categories ( wide-angle and close-up ) as well as a category for compact and action cameras . There is also a new standalone category , entitled ‘ mankind ’ s impact on the environment ’. In addition to category winners and runners up , there will also be awards for overall champion and best newcomer .
Torbay Splash-In for August
THERE ’ S STILL TIME TO REGISTER FOR this year ’ s Torbay BSAC Splash-In photography competition , which takes place on Saturday , 14 August .
The one-day competition is now in its fifth year and will be judged by renowned underwater photographer Peter Rowlands . All photos should be taken on the day , and the competition will be based around the coastline near the Royal Torbay Yacht Club .
There will be four categories – wide – angle , macro / close up , compact camera and beginners – as well as an overall ‘ Popular Vote ’, with all the winners being announced at an awards dinner to be held in the evening ( subject to any restrictions in place at the time ).
